Woke up at 0630 & packed up my gear for the beach - towel, shibumi, chair, and a backpack with books & beer. Setup was incredibly simple. Took maybe 5 minutes and I had a fully-equipped basecamp on the beach.
Finished reading, “A Nail to the Heart”, a novel about life in Thailand. Bourdain was right — forget the guidebooks. Reading fiction by authors who live abroad really helps to give you the feel for the entire area. Not sure if Bangkok is on my short list for travel, but good reading nonetheless.
